What to Expect During Your Car Wash Pit Cleaning: Our Process

Has it been a while since your pit or external tank was cleaned? Or are you a diligent owner looking for a new, reliable provider?

Here’s what you can expect throughout the process:

  • Initial Assessment . We evaluate your car wash and the extent of buildup in your pit troughs and external tanks.
  • Water Pumping (When Needed) . For larger external tanks, we may first pump off the top layer of water using a regular pump truck after a quick pH test to ensure it’s properly disposed of.
  • Debris Removal . Our vacuum trucks (hydrovacs) and hydro-jet systems then remove all accumulated solids, including sand, grit, mud, leaves, and trash, from every part of the bay or conveyor system.
  • Proper Disposal . All collected waste is safely contained in our trucks. (More on where it goes below!)
  • Reclaim Water Return . For some systems, after removing heavy solids, we can return the reclaim water back to your system.

Where Does Your Car Wash Waste Go?

As a car wash owner, you've got enough on your plate without worrying about where your pit waste ends up. This is where our expertise truly shines.

We are familiar with the local environmental regulations governing car wash wastewater. This means every gallon is transported and disposed of properly.

Whether you're setting up a recurring maintenance schedule or getting caught up after a long gap, Wind River Environmental is ready to help.

We service car washes throughout the East Coast and work around your operating hours to minimize downtime.

How often should I schedule a car wash pit cleaning service?

Cleaning frequency depends on your location and the volume of cars washed.

If you're in the Northeast, we recommend quarterly services due to all the sand and salt from harsh winters. Other regions might benefit from semi-annual to annual cleaning.

If you run a “high-volume” car wash, your pits should be cleaned every 3-6 months. If you run a “low-moderate-volume” car wash, you can probably settle for having your pits cleaned once a year.

What happens if I don't have my car wash pit regularly cleaned?

Neglecting regular pit cleaning leads to a buildup of solids, mud, and grit. This buildup can impact your reclaim water system and cause water to overflow out of the pits. The longer you go without schedule a service, the more expensive your next service can be.

We know regular maintenance is annoying – but we want to help you avoid more expensive car wash pit services

How much will car wash pit cleaning cost?

Your cost varies based on factors like the time since the last cleaning, the size of your system, and the required equipment. If it's been a while since your last service, it could be more expensive.

Our clients on a regular cleaning schedule often save money in the long run by avoiding intensive cleaning services.

If I haven't had my car wash pit cleaned for a while, is it an emergency?

Generally, a neglected car wash pit isn't an "emergency" in the same way a backed-up septic system is. You typically won't have to stop everything and rush out. But you should schedule a service soon.
